What is Npw
A Platform Built For Peace
The Nigeria Peace Web (NPW) is an open-source, digital platform which systematically maps peace actors and events in Nigeria. Harnessing cutting-edge technology, it provides timely, evidence- based data and analysis for policymakers, practitioners, donors, and researchers looking to shape the peacebuilding landscape in Nigeria.
NPW responds to a critical gap in peacebuilding: while there is extensive mapping and reporting on conflict and political violence, no such systematic equivalent exists for peace. As such, we know extensively about when, where, and how violence occurs, but possess limited systematic knowledge about peace actors and initiatives that prevent, mitigate, manage or even transform conflicts.
Systematically identifying peace — rather than conflict — events and actors can inform peacebuilding interventions in a way that deliberately nurtures the potential for peace, and strengthen the otherwise latent "stitches and threads" which hold even fragile and conflict-affected communities together.
The Critical Gap NPW Addresses
Conflict & Violence Data
Extensively mapped. When, where, and how violence occurs is systematically documented by platforms like ACLED globally.
The Gap
Peace Actor & Event Data
No systematic equivalent exists. NPW is built to fill this gap — mapping who is building peace, where, and how.
Scope and rollout
Pilot Phase & Long Term
NPW is currently in its pilot phase, focused on four Nigerian states selected for their active peacebuilding landscape and data availability. The platform will be launched in Q2 2026, with a long-term vision to become the authoritative platform for peace data and analysis in Nigeria and beyond.
The concept for the project emerged from CORN West Africa’s Policy Levers for Peace report, which highlighted the multiplicity of peacebuilding actors at sub-national and local level in Nigeria, and draws inspiration from conflict data mapping tools such as those developed by ACLED and the International Crisis Group.
